2020 ACHE ConferenceHindsight is 2020: (RE)Interpreting the Past
8am – 3pm SRP

This year’s theme will focus on how historians interpret and reinterpret the past. Historians question not only what happened in the past, but how that history was recorded. What was omitted, misrepresented, or misunderstood? How can we broaden our understanding of the past by including a wider narrative, more diversity, and contribute to the complexity of understanding? The theme will also focus on ways students can use the past to reinterpret the present. To contextualize the past and take civic action. Our aspiration is to make meaningful contributions to the teaching of history by demonstrating innovative pedagogical approaches and/or by providing materials for classroom use. As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the U.S. Women’s Suffrage Movement, we consider how the actions of those involved have been interpreted over time. Equally important, how do we help students understand these interpretations to inform their futures.
