Conference Theme: If history doesn’t repeat, does it rhyme?
From wars in Europe, to political upheaval in South America, migration across the globe, expansion of rights, and human triumph over challenges, certain themes tend to circle back repeatedly throughout history. Each generation experiences déjà vu moments that cause us to consider whether the course of history is on repeat, or if our historical memory is playing tricks on us.
2024 marks the 75th Anniversary of the Creation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Centennial of the Enactment of the Immigration Act and Indian Citizenship Act, the 60th Anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act, and 35 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. The striking significance of each of these events to contemporary issues and debates reminds us of Mark Twain’s remark, “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.”
This half-day conference will include a light breakfast, lunch, and a wealth of ideas and strategies to take back to your classroom!
“Unconference” Social Opportunities
We all could use more time to collaborate, share ideas, as well discuss current trends and issues. Please join us for our Friday night “mixer” activity from 5 – 7pm at the Chandler Museum, held the evening before the conference. Participants will have time to view the museum, enjoy some hors d’oeuvres and wine, and chat with other participants. Our Saturday conference will be followed by a happy hour gathering at a nearby location. Your conference registration already includes the Friday night event, and one free drink at our Saturday happy hour!
