Why History Matters: American History Teachers Speak Out essay submissionSubmission deadline is 9/16/22Driving Force Institute (DFI) is seeking original writing from social studies educators for a new book on why American history knowledge is important, relevant, and critical: Why History Matters: American History Teachers Speak Out. Submissions selected for publication will be awarded $500 each.

DFI wants to showcase compelling insights from teachers on the importance of American history education and how you are successfully inspiring the next generations to understand and appreciate it.

Teachers of American history to K-16 students are invited to submit original essays up to 1,000 words on one of the two following topics:

• Share your insight about why the history of America is important for a student to learn, understand, and appreciate.• Tell a story about how you successfully inspired students and engaged them in the learning of American history and why your approach worked.

We intend to release the book at the end of 2022, before the NCSS annual convention, and will be promoting it and the published authors to media in their communities and nationally.
